Computing Setup
  • Install Visio 2016 (Our diagramming tool for Windows users)
Description: If you are using a Windows computer, I recommend that you use Visio 2016 as the diagramming tool for this course. This is the diagrammer that I demonstrate in the tutorial videos. As an iSchool student, you are entitled to a free copy of this tool. You can download a copy from Microsoft's Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Web site (see link below). If you have difficulty accessing this free version, please contact the iSchool Help Desk. Or, stop by our Online Lab Session on Sunday morning.
  • OR, Install an Alternative Diagrammer
Description: If you are not using a Windows computer, you need to choose some alternative to using Visio 2016. In the past, many students who are using macOS have used Lucidchart (see link below). You are free to use yet other diagrammers provided that they enable you to create diagrams that have the same appearance as those shown in the tutorial videos. If you have a question about using a particular diagrammer, please contact me directly.
    • Lucidchart . Lucidchart makes a limited version of its diagrammer free-to-everyone. You can sign up for a free account here.
    • Lucidchart free educational license . Lucidchart can provide a free educational license to students who apply. This page has a link for signing up for a free student license. In the past, there have been some delays in getting these free student licenses approved. If this happens to you, use the free-to-everyone license described above while you wait for approval of your free student license.
